The Countdown Widget allows you to add a dynamic countdown clock to your website, helping highlight important event dates, deadlines and other time-sensitive milestones.
Please note: The instructions below apply to websites using Composer 1 or a custom theme. These websites use our original, more simplified Countdown Widget.
Composer 2 websites have access to our newer Countdown Widget, which includes significantly more design and configuration options. If your website already uses Composer 2, please see our Using the Countdown Widget in Composer 2 guide instead.
If you are using Composer 1 or a custom theme and would like to upgrade to the newer Countdown Widget, please contact your Account Manager to discuss the options available for your website.
Adding a Countdown Widget
To highlight your event dates, you can add a Countdown Widget that dynamically counts down towards a date and time of your choice.
1. Open your Page or Panel
Navigate to the Page or Panel where you would like the countdown to appear.
Within the visual editor, select the Widget icon.
2. Select the Countdown Widget
Choose Countdown from the available widget options.
3. Configure your countdown
Complete the available fields:
- Countdown Date – Set the date and time that you would like the countdown to run towards. This would typically be the opening date of your event, but can be any important deadline or milestone.
- Expired Text – Enter the text you would like to display once the countdown reaches zero.
- Display Elements – Choose how the countdown should be displayed. Depending on your website's design, options may include Days / Hours / Minutes or Months / Days / Hours.
The exact appearance of the Countdown Widget will depend on your website's existing theme and styling.
Using a Countdown in a Panel
Countdown Widgets can also be added to Panels, making them useful for prominent event dates, deadlines and promotional messages.
If your countdown is being used for a temporary campaign, consider setting an Expire Date within the Panel's Publishing Options. This allows the Panel to automatically stop displaying after the relevant date.
Ways to Use the Countdown Widget
Countdowns can be used for a range of important dates, including:
- Event opening dates
- Registration deadlines
- Early-bird pricing deadlines
- Ticket sales
- Calls for papers
- Launches and announcements
- Other time-sensitive event milestones
You can use countdowns in multiple locations across your website where appropriate.
Countdown Design and Sponsorship
The appearance and functionality available with the original Countdown Widget will depend on your website's existing design and theme.
Countdown Widgets can also be branded as part of sponsorship opportunities. If you are interested in creating a bespoke design or making changes to your existing countdown setup, please contact your Account Manager or submit a support ticket.
