If you have recently updated your SEO details (title, description, image, etc.) but your updated information is not appearing when shared on social media, the most likely cause is cached metadata. Social media platforms often store metadata from the first time a URL is shared, which can prevent updates from showing immediately.
There are two solutions:
-
Wait for the platform to automatically clear its cache.
-
Force the platform to clear its cache to show changes immediately.
Facebook provides a tool called the Sharing Debugger which allows you to force their cache to update.
Steps:
-
Go to the Facebook Sharing Debugger: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/
-
Enter the URL you want to share and press Enter.
-
Review the report preview (most info can be ignored).
-
Click the Scrape button to force Facebook to refresh the cached metadata.
LinkedIn uses the Post Inspector to preview links and update cached metadata.
Steps:
-
Go to the LinkedIn Post Inspector: https://www.linkedin.com/post-inspector/
-
Enter your URL and click Inspect.
-
LinkedIn will refresh its cache and display a preview of your link.
Alternative Method:
If Post Inspector isn’t accessible, you can append a dummy parameter to your URL to trick LinkedIn into fetching new metadata.
Example:
-
Original URL:
https://www.asp.events -
Modified URL:
https://www.asp.events?1
This does not affect your page but forces LinkedIn to re-fetch the metadata.
Twitter provides the Card Validator tool to refresh cached link data.
Steps:
-
Go to the Twitter Card Validator: https://cards-dev.twitter.com/validator
-
Enter your URL and click Preview card.
-
This action will force Twitter to update its cached metadata.
⚠️ Important Note
If after using the tools above the updated metadata still does not display:
-
The issue may be due to your site’s own cache.
-
Please submit a ticket requesting a site cache clear, and we can ensure the latest metadata is pulled by social media platforms.
