Categories allow you to tag and organize your content across your platform. They can help with filtering, navigation, and syncing information between sites and products.
Examples of how categories can be used
-
Exhibitors: Tag themselves by product type, e.g., “Shoes” or more specific tags like “Shoes, Colour.”
-
Show organization: Create sections or areas within your event.
-
News items: Categorize updates as “Show News” or “Blog.”
-
Speakers: Tag as “Advisory Board” or “Speaker.”
-
Exhibitors (highlighting): Use tags like “New” or “Featured.”
You can choose to control tagging yourself, or allow exhibitors to tag their own content, such as press releases or product listings.
Categories can also be shared across multiple products or sites, ensuring consistent tagging everywhere.
Adding Categories
If you only have a few categories to create, it may be faster to add them manually.
If you’re working with many categories — especially those with Parent-Child relationships — you can import them using a CSV file.
Importing Categories (No Parent-Child Hierarchy)
Step 1: Access the Categories Menu
In your website’s back office:
-
Click Settings in the left-hand menu.
-
Select Categories from the submenu.
Step 2: Add a Category (Optional)
If you don’t already have categories:
-
Click Add Category.
-
Enter a Code (a unique identifier, e.g.,
TT). -
Enter a Label (the category name).
-
Click Save Category.
Step 3: Open the Import Tool
Hover over the More menu and select Import.
A pop-up window titled Upload Data File will appear.
Step 4: Prepare Your CSV File
Create a spreadsheet with the following columns:
-
Code – Unique identifier (e.g.,
TT01) -
Label – The name of the category
Example:
| Code | Label |
|---|---|
| TT01 | Shoes |
| TT02 | Accessories |
Save this file as a .CSV.
Step 5: Upload Your File
In the Upload Data File pop-up:
-
Click Browse to select your CSV file.
-
Click Submit.
Step 6: Match Fields and Import
You’ll be prompted to map the CSV fields to your system fields:
-
Import Method: Select Add New
-
Code → Code
-
English (British) → Label
Click Submit to preview the import.
If everything looks correct, click Submit again to complete the import.
Your categories are now ready to use!
Importing Categories with a Parent-Child Hierarchy
If your categories have parent and child relationships, your CSV must include four columns:
| Parent Code | Parent Label | Code | Label |
|---|---|---|---|
| TT | Footwear | TT01 | Shoes |
| TT | Footwear | TT02 | Boots |
Repeat the parent code and label for each related child category.
When mapping fields (as in Step 6), match the following:
-
Code → Code
-
English (British) → Label
-
Parent Code → Parent Code
-
Parent English (British) → Parent Label
Proceed as before — preview your import, then confirm.
Your hierarchical categories will now appear correctly nested under their parent categories.
