Overview
You can add a secondary button to your News Library without any development work or template changes. This can be done by creating a custom URL field and enabling it in the library layout settings.
Step 1: Create the Custom Field
Go to Libraries.
Click Manage.
Hover over the View Entries button (to the right of the relevant library).
Click Edit.
Select Create Custom Field.
Set the Field Type to URL.
In the Label field, enter the button name (this will be the button text displayed on the frontend).
Untick Mandatory Field (unless you want this button required on all entries).
Increase the Max Length (default is 50) to allow for longer URLs.
Click Save.
Step 2: Enable the Button in Layout Settings
Go back to the library and click Edit.
Click Library Options.
Navigate to Layout Settings → Entry Settings.
Under Additional Fields, tick the custom field you just created.
Click Save.
Step 3: Add the Button Link to Entries
To make the button appear on the frontend:
Open the relevant library entry.
Populate the newly created custom URL field with the desired link.
Save the entry.
Once the URL field is populated, the secondary button will display automatically on the frontend.
Notes
No template or development changes are required.
The button will only appear on entries where the custom URL field has been completed.
You can repeat this process to create additional buttons if needed.
