Before disabling CAPTCHA on any form, it’s important to understand why CAPTCHA is enabled by default and the potential risks involved in turning it off.
Why CAPTCHA Is Important
Disabling CAPTCHA is not recommended, as it plays a key role in protecting your forms and data. CAPTCHA helps safeguard your site in the following ways:
Prevents Automated Spam and Bots
CAPTCHA ensures that form submissions are made by real users rather than automated scripts. Without it, bots can submit large volumes of spam, fake enquiries, or malicious content.
Protects Against Brute Force Attacks
Forms such as login or registration pages are more vulnerable to brute force attacks without CAPTCHA, where attackers attempt many submissions in a short period of time.
Reduces Server Load
Automated submissions can place unnecessary strain on servers, potentially causing performance issues or downtime. CAPTCHA filters out unwanted bot traffic.
Maintains Data Integrity
Spam submissions can pollute your database, making analytics, reporting, and lead data unreliable. CAPTCHA helps keep your data clean and accurate.
Enhances Overall Security
Bots may exploit unsecured forms to inject malicious content or support phishing activity. CAPTCHA provides an additional layer of defence.
How to Disable CAPTCHA on a Form
If you understand the risks and still wish to proceed, you can disable CAPTCHA by following these steps:
Log in to the Back Office.
Hover over Modules and select Forms.
Locate the form you want to edit and click Edit.
Open the Settings tab.
Scroll down to find the checkbox labelled Use CAPTCHA.
Untick the checkbox.
Scroll down and click Save Form.
CAPTCHA and Notification Emails (Important)
CAPTCHA cannot be disabled on a form that has notification emails enabled.
This restriction exists to:
Prevent automated spam submissions from triggering large volumes of emails
Reduce the risk of your domain being flagged or blocked by email providers
If notification emails are active, you must remove or disable them first before CAPTCHA can be turned off.
Summary
CAPTCHA is a critical security feature and is enabled by default
Disabling CAPTCHA increases the risk of spam, attacks, and data issues
CAPTCHA cannot be disabled while notification emails are enabled
If you’re unsure whether disabling CAPTCHA is appropriate for your use case, please contact the Support team for advice before making changes.
