Overview
There may be situations where you want to prevent certain pages or content entries from appearing on Google or within your sitemap. This is commonly used for pages still in development, duplicate content, testing environments, or internal-only pages.
To achieve this, you can apply the “no index, follow” meta tag setting within the CMS. This ensures the page does not appear in search results or the sitemap while still allowing search engines to follow internal links on the page.
Understanding the Setting
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| No Index | Prevents the page from appearing in Google or being indexed |
| Follow | Allows search engines to follow links on the page for crawling |
This is the recommended setup when you want to hide a page from search but keep internal navigation intact.
How to Apply This Setting
Follow the steps below inside the CMS:
Steps
Go to the Library
Log into the CMS and navigate to the Library
Open Library Options
Click Library Options in the top-right settings area
Open SEO Settings
Select SEO
Adjust Meta Tags
Click Set up ‘Index & Follow’ Meta Tags
Change the value to “no index, follow”
Save changes
Where You Can Apply This
You can apply this setting across different content types:
Standard pages
Seminar entries
Speaker entries
Other content items stored in the library
Expected Result
Once applied, the page or item:
Will not appear in Google or other search engines
Will not be visible in your sitemap
Will still allow search crawlers to follow internal links
Additional Notes
If at any time you want to make the page visible in search again, return to the same settings and choose “index, follow.”
