Modern web browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox have updated how videos work.
To stop unexpected sound from playing, browsers now block any video with audio from autoplaying.
This means that if you have a video on your website that should start automatically, it wonβt autoplay unless the sound is turned off.
π§ Why do browsers block autoplay?
This change helps:
Stop loud audio surprising visitors
Reduce data usage (especially on mobile)
Improve page load speeds
So, if your video has sound, the browser will wait for the visitor to press play.
β How to make your video autoplay again
To allow a video to autoplay, it must be added without sound.
If your video is added using a Third Party Code widget in the CMS, your developer or CMS editor simply needs to:
Open the widget where the video was added.
Ensure the video is set to play silently.
Save the changes.
Once the video is muted, it will autoplay normally again across all major browsers.
If you video is added via a video widget, simply set the video to muted.
π± Mobile devices
Phones and tablets follow the same rules β videos with sound wonβt autoplay.
Muting the video ensures autoplay works on iPhone, iPad and Android too.
