The Media Manager in Showoff allows you to perform basic image edits such as cropping, rotating, resizing, and even finding faces. This is useful for optimizing images for your website without needing external software.
Accessing Image Editing
-
From the left-hand menu, go to Media Manager.
-
Click on the image you want to edit.
Image Overview
When editing an image, you will see key details:
-
Name: The current file name. Click Rename to change it.
-
URL: The direct link to the image on your site, including folder location.
-
File Size: Indicates how large the file is. Files over 1MB may load slower, especially on mobile connections.
-
Date Created & Last Modified: Useful for ensuring you’re editing the most recent version.
-
Image Dimensions: Size in pixels. Large images may need resizing for faster page load.
-
Used: Shows where the image is being used on your site, with clickable links.
Cropping Images
Cropping allows you to focus on the main subject and remove unwanted areas or white space.
How to Crop
-
Click the Crop tab.
-
Drag the corners or edges of the crop box to select the area you want to keep.
-
Alternatively, enter specific width and height values on the right-hand side.
-
Click Crop Image to save changes.
Important: By default, cropping creates a new image, keeping the original intact.
Tips for Image Editing
-
Use cropping to highlight key content and remove distractions.
-
Keep file sizes manageable for faster website loading.
-
Check the Used section before editing to avoid breaking images already on live pages.
How to Rotate
-
Click the Rotate tab in the Media Manager.
-
Choose to rotate the image left or right.
-
The image is saved automatically, so ensure the orientation is correct before leaving the page.
Tip: Double-check after rotating, especially if the image is used on live pages, to ensure it appears correctly across your site.
Resizing Images
Resizing adjusts the actual dimensions and file size of your image without altering the content itself. This is useful for optimizing load times and maintaining responsive design.
How to Resize
-
Click the Resize tab.
-
Enter a new width and/or height.
-
Keep “Lock Proportions” checked to prevent the image from becoming distorted.
-
Click Resize Image to save your changes.
-
Optionally, enter a new file name to keep the original image intact (recommended).
Tip: Resizing images before uploading can improve page speed, particularly for high-resolution images.
