Across all modules within the CMS, you’ll find a Tags & Default Taxonomies section at the bottom of each entry, including Exhibitors, Speakers, Sessions, and Library entries. These tools help organise content behind the scenes and control how it is displayed and filtered across your website.
Auto-generated Tags
This section includes tags that are automatically generated based on the content added to an entry (for example, from bio or description fields).
These tags are not visible on the website
They are not indexable for SEO purposes
They should not be confused with meta tags
Auto-generated tags are used internally by the CMS to support content organisation and filtering.
Default Taxonomies: Featured, Sponsored & New
Each entry also includes three default taxonomy options:
Featured
Sponsored
New
By default, all three options are set to “No”, but they can be updated as required on an individual or bulk basis.
Updating Individual Entries
Open the relevant entry in the CMS
Scroll to the Tags & Default Taxonomies section
Update the dropdown values as needed
Updating Entries in Bulk (CSV Import)
You can also update these values in bulk using a CSV import:
Include columns in your CSV for Featured, Sponsored, and/or New
Set the value to “Yes” for the entries you want to tag
During the import process, ensure each column is mapped to the correct CMS field
This approach allows you to update large numbers of records quickly and efficiently.

How Tags and Taxonomies Are Used on Your Website
Tags and taxonomies are particularly powerful when used in widgets to control how content is displayed across your website.
Within any widget:
Open the Search and Filters tab
Navigate to the Filters section
You’ll find the following options:
Featured Entries
Sponsored Entries
New Entries
When enabled, these filters ensure the widget only displays entries that match the selected taxonomy.
You can also combine filters using AND / OR logic to create more advanced, bespoke content lists.

Benefits of Using Tags and Taxonomies
Using tags and default taxonomies gives you greater control over both content management and the visitor experience.
Curated Content for Website Visitors
Taxonomies allow you to create curated pages and content sections that surface specific content for visitors, such as:
Featured exhibitor or speaker listings
Sponsored content areas
“What’s New” sections highlighting recent additions
This helps guide visitors toward key content and improves content discovery.
Improved Visitor Experience
By filtering large volumes of content intelligently, visitors can:
Find priority or promoted entries more quickly
Discover new or highlighted content with ease
Navigate complex event data more efficiently
Content Reuse Without Duplication
The same entry can appear in multiple widgets or pages using different filters, removing the need to duplicate content and reducing ongoing maintenance.
Faster and More Flexible Updates
Because taxonomies can be updated individually or via CSV import, you can:
Rotate featured content quickly
Update sponsored listings in bulk
Refresh landing pages without rebuilding widgets
Consistent, Scalable Filtering
Using standardised taxonomies ensures a consistent filtering method across all modules and widgets, making them ideal for large-scale events with extensive content.
Supports Commercial and Marketing Goals
Featured and Sponsored taxonomies can support:
Sponsorship agreements
Promotional campaigns
Paid or priority placements
All while keeping full editorial control within the CMS.
