An exit pop-up (also known as an exit-intent pop-up) appears when a visitor is about to leave your website, such as when they move their cursor towards the browser close button or navigate away from the page.
Exit pop-ups can be used to:
Promote key content or offers
Encourage newsletter sign-ups
Highlight important announcements
Re-engage users before they leave your site
How exit pop-ups are added depends on which website template you’re using.
Not sure which template your website uses?
Please contact your account manager, who will be able to confirm this for you.
Classic Composer template
If your website is built on our Classic Composer template, it isn’t compatible with an exit-intent pop-up. However, you can still create entry pop-ups.
You’ll find instructions here:
https://support.asp.events/hc/en-us/articles/360016167837-Activating-a-Pop-Up-on-Your-Classic-Composer-Website
Custom template
If your website uses a custom template, exit pop-ups can be added by request.
Please raise a support ticket with full details of your requirements (content, styling, and any page-specific behaviour), and the team will review and advise on next steps.
Note: While ASP can advise on required settings and best practice, we do not have direct control over DNS records or custom template code without a support request.
Composer 2 template (exit pop-up included)
If your website is using our Composer 2 template, the exit pop-up functionality is pre-built and available in the CMS.
Step 1: Create a “Popup Exit” panel position
Log into the back office of the website you want to edit.
Navigate to Panels.
If there is no existing Popup Exit position, select Edit panel positions at the top.
Click Add new panel position.
Enter a label (for example, Popup Exit).
Set the Position Type dropdown to Popup Exit.
Save your changes.
Step 2: Create the exit pop-up panel
Return to the main Panels area.
Select Add Panel and give the panel a title.
Set the Panel location to the Popup Exit position you created.
Select Style 1, Style 2, or Style 3.
Style examples:
Style 1: https://composer.showoff.asp.events/panels/popup-exit/popup-exit-style-1
Style 2: https://composer.showoff.asp.events/panels/popup-exit/popup-exit-style-2
Style 3: https://composer.showoff.asp.events/panels/popup-exit/popup-exit-style-3
Step 3: Add your content
Within the Content tab, you can configure:
An image (including alt text)
A main heading/title
Body or paragraph text
Each content element can be toggled on or off using the relevant options.
Step 4: Configure timing and frequency
Under the Settings tab:
Expiry (days): Controls how often the pop-up appears to the same user.
For example, if set to 3, the pop-up will only appear once every 3 days when the user revisits the site.Delay (seconds): Controls how quickly the pop-up appears once exit intent is triggered.
Step 5: Adjust styling
Under Settings > Content, you can customise:
Image overlay and colour
Text size and colour
Font, font weight, and casing
This allows the pop-up to visually align with your website branding.
Step 6: Save and activate
Once complete, save your changes and ensure the panel is set to Active so it appears on the live website.
Creating multiple exit pop-ups
You can create multiple exit pop-ups with different content if required.
To do this:
Clone your existing exit pop-up panel.
Update the content as needed.
Apply panel restrictions to control which pages each pop-up appears on.
Instructions for restricting panels can be found here:
https://support.asp.events/hc/en-us/articles/360013894691-How-To-Restrict-Panels-to-Certain-Pages
