This article explains the different menu item types available in the CMS and how each type should be used when building site navigation.
🧠How to Access Menu Types
Open the Back Office.
Go to Menus.
Open the menu you want to edit.
Select Add Menu Item.
Enter a Title
This is the text that will appear in the site navigation.
Select a Type
The selected type determines what the menu item links to or displays.
đź“‹ Menu Item Types Explained
Below is an overview of each available menu item type and when it should be used.
Campaign Tracker
A Campaign Tracker is used to track user interactions with specific links, typically for marketing or promotional campaigns.
Selecting this type allows the menu item to link to a tracked campaign URL, enabling reporting on clicks and engagement.
Exhibitor
This type links the menu item to an exhibitor list.
It is commonly used on event or exhibition websites where users need quick access to all registered exhibitors. The content is dynamically generated based on exhibitor data stored in the system.
Free
The Free type creates a non-clickable menu item.
It is most often used as a parent menu item that contains sub-menu (child) items beneath it. The menu label itself does not link anywhere.
Gallery
This option allows you to attach a gallery to the menu item.
When selected, users are taken to a page displaying the chosen gallery, which may include images or other visual content managed in the CMS.
Library
The Library type links the menu item to any library list available on your website.
This can include:
Press releases
Products
Brochures
Blogs
Videos
Any other custom libraries added to your site
Libraries display structured, repeatable content managed within the CMS.
Mail-to
This type creates an email link.
When selected, you can enter an email address. Clicking the menu item opens the visitor’s default email client with a new message addressed to that email.
Media
The Media type links directly to any file stored in the Media Manager of the site you are currently editing.
This can include PDFs, images, videos, or other uploaded assets.
Page
The Page type is the most commonly used menu item.
It allows you to link the menu item to an existing CMS page.
Seminar
This option links the menu item to a seminar programme or agenda.
It is typically used on event websites to allow users to navigate directly to schedules, session listings, or programme overviews.
Speaker
The Speaker type links to speaker-related content, such as speaker listings or profiles.
It can also be used as a parent menu item containing sub-menu items related to speakers.
Submenu (Classic EZone Only)
The Submenu menu type is used exclusively within the Classic EZone and is not intended for use on the main public website navigation.
This menu type supports status-based navigation within the exhibitor zone, allowing you to control which menu items are visible to exhibitors based on their exhibitor status.
How it’s typically used:
To create different menu structures for different exhibitor statuses
To restrict or expand access to EZone content
Example use case:
A Gold status exhibitor may see additional menu items such as premium content or enhanced profile features
A Silver status exhibitor may see a reduced set of menu items
Submenu items act as containers for child links, ensuring exhibitors only see content relevant to their assigned status.
Important:
This menu type should only be used when configuring Classic EZone navigation and should not be used for standard site menus.
Telephone
This creates a click-to-call link.
When selected, you can enter a telephone number. On supported devices, clicking the menu item will initiate a call.
URL
Use the URL type to link to an external website.
You must enter the full URL, including https://. This is commonly used for partner websites or third-party platforms.
Zone
The Zone type links the menu item to a Zone homepage, such as an E-Zone.
Zones are separate user-access areas within the site and are not standard CMS pages.
📝 Summary
Each menu item type controls what the menu item links to—whether that’s a page, a file, a library list, or a functional area like a Zone or seminar programme.
Choosing the correct menu item type ensures:
Correct navigation behaviour
Proper content display
A better overall user experience
